Case Study - Energy Producer
Problem:
A leading energy producer wanted to reduce incidences and accidence by
improving safety and environmental compliance of their drilling and
construction contractors.
Solution: Abstract Solutions provided on-site safety
consulting and leadership coaching to 7 on-site contractors for the
3-month duration of the exploration project. Our team developed
relationships with each contractor and all 300 on-site staff members to
improve safe behaviors and compliance.
Outcome: Accidences and incidences were reduced by 58% and
reporting increased. Our team identified numerous issues that
could have lead to significant injury and worked with the corporate teams
to address and resolve each issue quickly preventing accidents.
Individuals modified their behavior in the field and bought into the
corporate safety vision of "No one gets hurt on my shift".

Case Study - General Contractor
Problem:
A General Contractor with 50% of its staff operating as casual labor, found that
the quality of work was occasionally not to his satisfaction and that
employees were not behaving safely. This
led to unhappy customers, wasted material due to errors, late job
completion, risk of fines for non-compliance and undo stress for the Contractor.
Solution: Abstract Solutions
prepared a New Employee Training Program that
identified the corporation's and government standards and safety policies;
and provided the Contractor with material and training to perform this
program internally with ease. Additionally, Abstract Solutions
recommended that they increase employee involvement in projects and
articulate each project's goals with more clarity. We created tools
that allow the Contractor to hold detailed pre-job safety meetings and regular
toolbox talks which clearly identify the tasks, hazards and deadlines
associated with the project. Employee hazard ID tools and project
information tool templates were created to ensure all future projects ran
smoothly and met code.
Outcome: The Contractor
immediately saw an improvement in employee ownership and quality of work.
This very affordable program paid for itself in one month through
satisfied customers, compliance to code, a reduction in wasted materials,
significant reduction in injuries, faster job completion and improved employee loyalty.

Case Study - Chemical Manufacturer
Problem: A local Chemical
Manufacturer wanted to improve the computer skills of several
employees but was unable to send everyone off-site during regular business
hours to
participate in computer
training.
Solution: Abstract
Solutions met with the specific employees to
understand their current computer level and learn what areas they needed to
improve based upon their current computer skills and the tasks they
performed daily. We developed customized, 30 and 60 minute computer training
sessions for each employee based upon their needs and delivered the
programs on-site at their desks eliminating lost time for travel.
Outcome: Each employee
upgraded their computer skills and returned to their tasks immediately after the training was
complete. Productivity and efficiency were improved. The Chemical Manufacturer was so pleased that they now include
this training as part of their Continuous Improvement policy for all staff members
nationally.

Case Study -
Distribution Firm
Problem: A successful family owned and
operated Distribution firm was struggling with their executive personnel
who were at times, rival siblings.
A senior share holder was concerned about the conflicting messages that
these
siblings were delivering to staff creating confusion, poor productivity
and low morale.
Solution: Abstract
Solutions had several meetings with the group with the expressed
purpose of identifying the goals of the corporation, documenting everyone's present role and identifying the
strengths of each team member. We helped the team revise and clarify
roles for each member and delivered a one-day customized Leadership
program to help them improve their management style and better focus on
their strengths to
manage their staff better.
Outcome: Operations and
employee morale improved
immediately. Management learned how to communicate clear direction to staff.
Bickering and unproductive disagreements ceased and productivity improved
throughout the organization.

Case Study -
Construction Firm
Problem: A large
Construction Firm relies heavily on several smaller contracting companies to
complete projects. These contractors work in the field and had
occasional
incidences that caused injuries, damage to equipment, downtime and were subject to
government fines.
The Construction firm's concern for safety and production downtime
prompted them to develop safety procedures in 2005 to prevent incidences from happening,
however; teams in-field were not complying and incidences continued to
occur.
Solution: Abstract
Solutions had several meetings with the Construction firm and
the contractors to identify the root cause of incidences. We made
revisions to the safety
program to meet OSHA code that included; hazard inspection and ID products,
training, regular safety meetings, safety and housekeeping incentives, and
simple procedures to meet recordkeeping requirements that both the Construction firm and contractors
agreed upon and rolled the program out on-site to every in-field employee.
Outcome: Teams began to
comply to the revised safety program immediately and incidences were reduced by 56%
while productivity and morale improved significantly.

Health Product Manufacturer
Problem: A manufacturer of
Health Products found staff disagreeing often and unresolved conflicts caused
disruption within the team.
Solution: Abstract Solutions
met with several key personnel at various levels to understand what
problems they were facing. We developed and presented a two-day
customized Team Building and Leadership program that dealt with conflict,
communication, team development and helped them refocus on the corporation
goals. A second 1/2 day follow-up session 6 weeks later
found improvement among the team and encouraged them to keep the progress moving forward.
Outcome: The program
encouraged the group to create and agree upon new rules that
addressed everyone's concerns and stressed empathy. Their new
respect and understanding for each others' roles, coupled with clear
rules, policies and procedures; improved morale and productivity they
became a strong, interdependent team.

System Integration
Firm
Problem: A Systems
Integration
firm had a large project and required large operations manuals to
accompany their
customized equipment. These manuals were part of the deliverables
per the purchasing agreement and would have delayed final payment.
Solution:
Abstract
Solutions met with project managers to document project
details and provided technical writing to complete the manuals within the
deadline. We
suggested that they deliver both printed and electronic copies and
produced an interactive CD for delivery to the client that included;
mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, operation procedures, staff
operation and safety training, maintenance schedules and instructions and included
promotional material for expansion to the equipment to accommodate
projected larger throughput requirements. Abstract Solutions also created a template allowing
the administration team to prepare all future documentation in this
fashion.
Outcome: The
Integration firm's client was pleased with the equipment and material and
has since required all vendors to produce manuals based upon the template
provided. The equipment expansion material prompted the customer to
obtain a quotation from the Systems Integration firm and included these
cost into the next fiscal budget.
